As a student enrolled in the College of Engineering, you will receive a total allowance of 4,000 units per semester for printing.
The PaperCut system lets you use network printers in more places, provide a consistent printing experience, and make departmental printing allowances available for use with any PaperCut printer. The standard charge is 5 units per page for black-and-white, and 15 units per page for color.
Frequently Asked Questions
After using up your initial 4,000 units and any additional units from departments, additional printing costs will be charged directly to your U-Bill, and your PaperCut balance will appear as negative. Printing charges that appear on your U-bill require a $1 minimum. However, the maximum amount that can be charged past the initial 4,000 units is 5,000 units ($50) per semester, although a student can make a request through the Solution Center for that amount to be increased.

Printers are supposed to be mapped automatically in labs via Group Policies in the Active Directory. Sometimes, however, they do not map automatically and in that event they need to manually be mapped. To manually map a printer in a computer lab in Coover follow the directions below:
1. Press the Windows and R key on the keyboard and type, \\printers.ece.iastate.edu in the dialog box and click OK.
2. Select the appropriate printer for the lab you are in and right click and select connect. For the TLA, select "CO1313bw1", "CO1313bw2" or "CO1313co".
3. The printer should be installed automatically.
As a reminder: Prior to printing, always ensure that the printer you have selected is the desired destination for your print job. If the group policy has not completed properly, sometimes default printers are different than those in the room.
